In keeping with its practice over the past years, TCL celebrated World Environment Day 2010 on Friday June 4th, at both Mayo Quarry and Claxton Bay operations. The event at Mayo Quarry was opened by TCL’s General Manager, Satnarine Bachew, who spoke on biodiversity. TCL Group HSE Manager, Hannah Wei Muddeen addressed employees at Claxton Bay on “From Pollution to Environmental Sustainability”. Both venues were well attended by a wide cross-section of employees.
The opportunity was taken to present departments and sections with young trees for planting on TCL’s compound. The students of Mayo RC Primary School also participated in the activities and were presented with garbage bins and reading books for their library. Other activities included an exhibition by the Turtle Village Trust featuring material and exhibits on preserving, protecting and managing all species of sea turtles, a plant sale at Claxton Bay Plant as well as TCL’s booth at the EMA’s Green Lifestyle Show at the Trinidad Hilton on Saturday 5th June.
